I missed the chance to buy this kit during its first production run in the 1960’s, mostly because I hadn’t been born yet. But, at long last, the kit has been reissued by Round 2, who purchased the molds from Racing Champions. The molds had been sitting in storage since Racing Champions bought out AMT/Ertl well over 10 years ago. One neat thing is that the box has been reissued with the original box art and text.

I can’t find a scale on the box, but given the size of the parts, I’m guessing it’s around 1:12th scale. The styrene parts, while newly cast, definitely show 1960’s technology. The parts are fairly basic in their detailing, so there is wiggle room for builders to add more details if they choose to.

The instruction sheet is one page, front and back. The front side has an exploded diagram of the parts, showing how they go together. The reverse side has a painting guide, but as with the parts, it’s pretty basic. All of the colors are basic, like “pale blue” for Spock’s shirt, and “pale pink” for his skin.

The completed base is 4 inches wide by 7 inches long.

I just purchased an original edition of this from E-Bay. The parts are still in the plastic bag. I will post my progress as I build it.
