The Colonial Viper (now known as the Mark I version, thanks to the revised television series) was the primary defense craft for the original Battlestar Galactica when the series aired in the 1970’s.

The original kits were issued by Monogram in the 1970’s, and were then reissued in the 1990’s. I have many fond memories of the initial release of the kit in the 1970’s because it was the first model kit that I ever built with my dad. In fact, I still have my original Viper (with the spring-loaded launcher in the nose) on a shelf, waiting to be repainted and updated.

Revell acquired the license, and reissued the kit again in 2007, but with added features that included a full cockpit, a pilot figure, clear inserts for the engines, and a decal sheet that included markings for both the Galactica and for the Silver Spar squadron from the Pegasus.

The kit is molded in light gray and clear styrene. A nice display stand is included this time, rather than that old triangular clawed-foot thing that was part of the first two releases.

The completed kit measures about 11 inches long.
